Every now and then I do a search on my username to see what the 'net has on me and find some ancient comments I've made on various dead torrent sites such as TPB and isohunt.  Really childish stuff I sorta wish would disappear, heheh, but they do bring up the fact that TPB has mirrors going up (and coming down) with some regularity.  KAT have a million cloned sites, it seems and I do sometimes use them to get stuff I'm looking for, but not by hitting the "download" button (a recipe for maleware).  I use the hashes provided in the same manner I used their site when it was still legit.

What do you mean? That KAT has a lot of trojans? I haven't experienced that for decades. But then again, I mostly download movies and audio.

Not just KAT. Anything. I've seen stuff I've posted on yahoo groups decades ago on google search. LOL It's hard, because we're never the same person 10 years ago. You're kind of punished for not being adult enough to be mindful what you type, BEFORE you grasp just how the internet really works.

Too true, but I should also remind myself, this forum (and it's previous incarnations) always come up in searches for my username.  It took some time for the old forum to stop showing in searches.  Good thing webrings are no longer and I'd say the same about Geocities if it wasn't replaced by FB, heheh.

OMG!!! I totally forgot about webrings & Geocites. We must be about the same age. Now I feel ancient. Thanks a lot... LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Today I got that Offlinebay program working.  Just a matter of figuring out
the extension of the dump file to download.  It is not real clear from the 2 youtubes on the subject.

I tried some things and found some of my own live theatre ups that I keep going.

The interface is nice and clean and shows a good representation of active seeders.

Are you going to tell us how you did it?

Incidentally TPB is back on TOR at http://uj3wazyk5u4hnvtk.onion/ after being unavailable. I don't know if it was genuinely down or if it was just me.

On the Offlinebay.

There are two tutorials at Youtube.

Where I was having a problem is getting what they call the dump file
loaded into the Offlinebay program.  I tried the commands shown but
didn't get much.

Finally I locatted the dump file on my system which has an unusual
file extension. I'll look that up if needed.  A drag and drop will bring that
dump file (called  'dump' in the file name) into the program to read.

sample:

torrent_dump_full.csv.gz

It reads only TPB.  But TPB is still the biggest and most widely known.

Offlinebay is open source, free and developed through MIT programmer.
Versions for Linux, Mac etc.

The tutorials provide most of that and their Offlinebay website.

I'm curious. Why would you use a program like that if PirateBay is still operating? There are so many torrent search engines, I don't understand why would anyone use that. Unless I am not understanding something?

That's essentially because Pirate Bay is down in many countries now, or intermittently up, or you can't access it via the onion site. Here for example, even using private DNS I've a very hard time accessing it (I'm in France, Pirate Bay was officially blocked here along with djihadist sites.. ). So basically, it's either the .onion, a proxy (those are not always reliable, or even honest). So an offline dump of their index might be a good idea for some, if you're not keen on content published in real time :)

Oh, I see... I didn't realize the service fluctuated between countries. Interesting...

I've been noticing a good number of torrent created by Demonoid uploaders showing up on Zooqle.  Thing is, the site doesn't seem to have uploader details so I can't browse the content and considering there are a couple of uploaders I used to follow on Demonoid now there, that is a little disappointing.  I've not created an account with the site, can't see why I would if I don't intend on uploading, but I have a feeling that I might find uploaders noted in torrent details if I do.

I think some of these engines pull information in the same way these IMDB plugins work. They only pull specific information (they feel are most important). I've created an account with the; they don't allow you to upload. That pisses me off... LOL

Another torrent site tip found at Torrent Freak.  They have a piece on Tribler
which could be the future of BT.  TF is ahead of the Wiki for this so better to
read the TF piece.

I've installed it and played around with it.  It depends on what you are looking for.  Downloads only, no ups.

the story is here:
